02-10-2019【Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities】

This museum made me feel both novel and interesting. Looking down from the spiral staircase, I was very excited to explore downstairs. But I overestimated my ability to withstand the unknown conditions, so that I didn’t take a picture thereafter. Because I was worried if I took photos, I would bring their souls back to home. The exhibits in the entire space below will occupy a large area if placed in any large exhibition hall. And now they are placed in this small space in various ways and forms. The leopard sitting side by side with you makes you think that it is a person who can cheers and chat next minute. Every exhibit inside seems to have its own story to tell you. They are magical and true in front of you, the distance is so scary. The atmosphere is very strange, I have to rush in a circle and then flee from that environment. But this strange feeling will keep me remember it for a long time.

01-10-2019【The Shell Grotto】

Shell Grotto is the space I’ve seen using the same material. The mysterious place, the construction time and purpose are unknown. Although the entire passage is not very long, the shock is unforgettable. The exhibits in the outer exhibition hall also gave me a lot of inspiration: there are works of art directly carved on the shells, paintings made of small broken conch, houses with shells and daily necessities such as cosmetic cases. These products are all different ways of using shells.

30-09-2019【Tate Britain】

I went to The House of Dreams in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was not open that day. I knocked on the door, and an old gentleman told me that I had to wait until Oct. 26. He gave me an A4 paper introduction and welcomes me to come back next time. When he closed the door, I thought he was Stephen Wright himself. I read the brief of house of dream on the bus, and then I suddenly realized that these artists do not collect objects purposefully or consciously. This item attracted artists in some ways before they were brought back home. It is likely that the specific meaning of these items was given later for special purposes. At the beginning of this week, I should have brought my starting ideas , but I didn’t have a specific theme at that moment. I wanted to explore more to make a decision.

27-09-2019【Sir John Soane’s Museum】

This is a very interesting restaurant on the way to Sir John Soane’s Museum. I was fascinated with the decoration inside. It seems to walk onto the theater stage once I open the door at that moment.

In the lecture of that day, tutor mention a term “minor art”. It equals to women’s work, the domestic environment, textiles. Later, these associated with industrialization and mass-production. But painting, sculpture, architecture are in the realm of high art. It was a perfect testimony when visiting Sir John Soane’s Museum. Since photography was forbidden, there was no photographic evidence left. This is my first visit to this kind of small aristocratic museum, the experience is very special. I used to go to The house of Freud, but because it is more modern, I didn’t think of it as an exhibition hall. As an architect, Sir John Soane puts his various collections in his home as decorations, including sculptures, statues, paintings and other items from different countries, such as prisoners’ shackles which have special meanings etc. Although there’s nothing particularly attract me in the museum, it was a unique experience to me.

26-09-2019【Museum of Childhood】

What attracted me of this museum was the cardboard making theater and characters. I used to see this technique at the Queen Victoria exhibition. The multi-level scene design makes people feel the evolution of the story and narrative style of literature. The costumes of some dolls also caught my eye. Besides, I like to stand outside the doll house as an outsider to observe the decoration and design of the entire house.
