After the CSM library induction last Monday, I continued to look for recommended books in the unit 2 brief reading list. When I saw El Anatsui’s book, I suddenly remembered that I seemed to have seen his artwork at Tate Modern and was deeply impressed. Because when I first saw it, I thought it was a very soft fabric, but I didn’t expect to approach it and found that it was composed of many aluminum sheets. This finding made me very interesting. I pick out that photo in the album, which was taken in February 2019:

After I came back, I searched some videos about this author online, and they said that this artwork involved consumerism and colonialism. I don’t know whether I should set this object as a disobedient object, because we are recommended that we should check the Archive as much as possible. But I’m really curious about this object. First, it made me a stunning first impression, and the author is African. Second, many traditional handicrafts in Africa are also fascinated me, so I am really interested in the background of this object. So I borrowed a book and came back to see if I should continue to learn more about it. I also decided to go to Tate Modern to see if the object is still there.
